Porridge with berries, chia seeds and natural yoghurt

Porridge is a traditionally popular breakfast for good reason – it is nutritious, comforting and fills you up on a chilly morning. Oats are great source of vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants.

  • 180 g porridge oats
  • 1 l milk
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1 dash vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 150 g mixed berries; e.g. strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, blackcurrants
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp natural yoghurt
  • 2 tbsp flaked almonds; toasted
  • 2 tsp black and white chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp sesame seeds; toasted

Step 1.
Put the oats, milk, spices and 2 tbsp honey in a saucepan and heat gently. Allow to swell for about 6-7 minutes, stirring, over a gentle heat.

Step 2.
Slice the strawberries, if using. Mix the berries with the remaining honey and lemon juice in a bowl and leave to steep for about 5 minutes.

Step 3.
To serve, pour the porridge into bowls and top each with a tablespoon of yoghurt. Scatter the berries on top, sprinkle with almonds, chia seeds and sesame seeds and serve.
